What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a structured, evidence-based therapy designed to help people heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences.
When something painful happens, the memory can get "stuck" in the brain with the same emotions and body sensations you felt in the moment. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, tapping or tones, while you briefly focus on the memory. This helps your brain reprocess it so it feels less intense and less tied to the present.

Recommended for PTSD by organizations including the World Health Organization and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
What EMDR Can Help With
EMDR is best known as a treatment for trauma and PTSD, and it can also help with:
Childhood trauma and difficult family experiences
Car accidents assaults and other frightening experiences
Anxiety and other panic attacks
Phobias and specific fears
Grief and tramatic loss
Distressing memories that keep coming back
Low self-worth rooted in past experiences
Not sure if your experience "counts" as trauma? You do not need a specific diagnosis to ask about EMDR. Our team can help you decide if it is a good fit.
