Clinician Biography
Hi everyone! My name is Miranda Martinez, and I am currently a graduate intern with Lartey Wellness. I’m in my third year of my second master’s degree program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Walden University. I was fortunate enough to have earned my Bachelor of Science from Southern Connecticut State University, triple minoring in Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice, and then went on to earn my first Master of Science in Sociology from the same university. One of my greatest strengths is the perspective I bring to my work, along with my extensive educational background. As an Afro-Latina with a culturally diverse personal and professional background, I understand how culture, identity, and lived experiences shape the way we move through the world and our healing. This perspective allows me to truly see and hear my clients, especially those who have felt misunderstood, unseen, or marginalized in other care spaces. I approach therapy with empathy, cultural awareness, and respect for your full story, not just one part of who you are. My goal is to create a supportive, affirming space where you feel safe, understood, and empowered to heal and grow at your own pace.
I do this work because I know how life-changing it can be to have someone genuinely advocate for you. Growing up, I needed that support myself, and watching my mother move with urgency and determination to protect my well-being deeply shaped the passion I bring to my work today. In my professional experience supporting youth and families, particularly those transitioning out of foster care, I have seen how clear communication, advocacy, and compassion can make all the difference. I understand that not everyone has the privilege of having someone speak up on their behalf, and I take that responsibility seriously. What matters most to me is helping people feel believed in, supported, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
Outside of work, I am very intentional about caring for myself because I believe that showing up for myself allows me to show up fully for my clients. I value self-care, lifelong learning, and personal growth, and I’m always reading, exploring new ideas, and reminding myself that the mind is a terrible thing to waste. I find grounding and inspiration in hiking, spending time in nature, and traveling, not just for enjoyment but for the perspective it offers.
I am a huge animal lover and truly believe they make life better. My favorite animal is the elephant, not just because they are incredible, but because they represent strength, wisdom, and true matriarchy across generations. I admire how elephants protect their own, value community, and honor both the young and the elders, values that deeply align with how I approach my work and relationships.
