She currently works with Capella University, where she serves as a doctoral mentor, guiding doctoral learners through academic achievement, research development, and professional growth.
Dr. Smith is passionate about mentorship, leadership, and empowering future professionals in the human services and behavioral health fields. Dr. Smith specializes in substance use disorders, hoarding behaviors, and the experiences of spouses and significant others of sex offender registrants. Her doctoral research focused extensively on these populations, exploring the emotional, social, and systemic challenges they face while advocating for greater awareness, support, and policy development. She has extensive experience in crisis intervention, behavioral health, and community advocacy, which continues to shape her professional and academic contributions.
She holds a PhD in Human and Social Services with a concentration in Family Studies and Crisis Interventions and is currently pursuing her Master of Social Work-Clinical degree. Through her work in education, mentorship, and human services, Dr. Smith remains committed to creating meaningful change and supporting the personal and professional success of others.
